Well, we all know it’s been a bad season, but with just three more games to play, the 2017 Swallows finally qualified for official historically bad status, tying the franchise record for losses in a season as they notched up L number 94.

Game 140 Joy Points

  • The class of 2017 (44-94-2 ; .319) draw level in the loss column with the 1950 Kokutetsu Swallows (42-94-2 ; .309) who racked up their Ls in the franchise’s inaugural season 67 years ago.
  • Tokyo now have three games left, all at home, to pull clear at the summit of shit mountain. To avoid that honour they will have to put up three Ws in a row, against Chunichi (Saturday, Sunday) and Yomiuri (Tuesday). This seems unlikely however, since the team last won consecutive games way back in the last week of July.
  • That all said, the Swallows will not be able to set/tie the CL record (99) or the NPB record (103) for losses in a season. So there’s that.
  • If they fail to win any of the remaining games, they will also register three losing streaks of ten or more games in a season for only the second time in franchise history (the other time being 1970, which was also the last time they were 50 games under .500).
  • It is almost over people, it is almost over.
