Despite the close looking score, the Swallows never really threatened the Hanshins at any point during this game. Swallows starter Hoshi gave up six earned runs in the first four innings and the Swallows offense responded with only three runs, two runs coming on a Balentien home run.

Hanshin starter Akiyama continued his impressive breakout season pitching eight efficient innings, retiring the last thirteen batters faced. Dolis retired the side in order for the save in the ninth inning and the game was over in a jiffy.

On a positive note, the Swallows bullpen (Yamamoto, Nakazawa, and Muranaka) pitched four shutout innings to keep the score respectable.
