Yomiuri Giants 5

Tokyo Swallows 7

Streak: Won 1   Last 5: WLLLW

(Meiji Jingu Stadium)

W: Ishiyama (3-4)
L: Nishimura (0-2)

A less than optimal start for the Swallows for a second straight night and Gomiuri fans assumed a three game sweep was a foregone conclusion.

2McGehee (2B)2Yamasaki (CF)
3Sakamoto (SS)3Balentien (LF)
4Abe (1B)4Yamada (2B)

7Ch**o (RF)7Ohbiki (SS)
8Kobayashi (C)8Nakamura (C)
9Utsumi (SP)9Hoshi (SP)

Rookie Hoshi started for the Swallows, ULTIMATEBITCHBOYUTSUMI™ for Gomiuri. Hoshi, who seems to have hit the rookie wall at this point in the season, struggled from the first inning against that recently resurgent Gomiuri lineup.

In the top half of the first inning, Yoh hit a lead-off home run, McGehee walked and Sakamoto hit another home run. The Gomiuri catcher Kobayashi also singled home another run as they batted around to start the game. Things looking bleak for the Swallows (nothing new here). 4-0 Gomiuri

Luckily for the Swallows however, they were facing over the hill Utsumi and runs would be aplenty. Yamada got the scoring started with a run scoring single in the bottom of the first. 4-1 Gomiuri after one inning

Gomiuri scored their final run of the game in the second inning as Yoh hit another home run, a solo shot. 5-1 Giants

Swallows offense for a change manufactured runs rather than relying strictly on the long ball. Injury-returnee Ohbiki (single and RBI ground out) and Nakamura (two sacrifice flies) cashed in on opportunities in the fourth and sixth innings to tie the game. 5-5 tie

The Swallows completed the comeback victory in the seventh inning against Gomiuri reliever Nishimura when Balentien crushed a 1-1 offering deep into the left field bleachers to emphatically give the Swallows their first lead of the game. With a two run lead, the Swallows bullpen held on for the victory.  7-5 Swallows final

Ishiyama earned the win for the Swallows with two innings of relief. Nishimura took the loss for being Balentien’s bitch.
