PARTY LIKE IT’S 1970 JOY POINTS

  • The Swallows inept offence put up three runs via three solo home runs. They didn’t create much else of note.
  • Ishikawa did his bit. I still love him. Always will.
  • The bullpen faltered twice late to let this one slip away. In the 7th, Matsuoka put two men on before Nakazawa allowed one of them home, while in the 8th, Kondoh put another two on, with Lueke coming on to give up a two-run triple which would settle this one.
  • The last time the Swallows lost this many games without a W: 1970.
  • But fear not, your birds are chasing history – 1970 also saw Tokyo rack-up it’s franchise record 16 game losing streak. So the class of 2017 may well put themselves in the record books come week’s end.
  • Tokyo have a day off before Hanshin come to town for three games from Friday.
