In not so breaking news, another decent pitching performance was wasted by the Swallows as they fell 3-2 to Orix and swept in three games to start the delightful interleague schedule.

Yamada (2B)1Miyazaki (CF)
Sakaguchi (CF)2Nishino (2B)
Balentien (LF)3Koyano (3B)
Yuhei (DH)4Romero (DH)
Ohmatsu (1B)5T-Okada (LF)
Ohbiki (SS)6Nakajima (1B)
Ueda (RF)7Shunta (RF)
Nakamura (C)8Ando (SS)
Yachi (3B)9Wakatsuki (C)
Yoshinori (SP)PDickson (SP)

Yoshinori started for Swallows and Brandon Dickson for Orix.

The Swallows scored two runs in the early stages of the game thanks to a solo homer in by Balentien and an RBI single by Ohmatsu. Then the offense decided to take the rest of the night off.

The game got away from the Swallows in the sixth inning when Yoshinori lost his control. After getting two outs, he walked three straight batters, the last walk resulting in the tying run. The next move by Manaka was baffling as he proceeded to bring in Hirai (not to be confused with Greg Maddox and his pinpoint control) who walked in the winning run. No Kondoh, no Ishiyama in this situation since according to the Manaka book of baseball management, you cannot bring in your best relievers before the later innings… 3-2 Orix final

News and Notes

– This was Yoshinori’s first interleague start since 2011, when he got injured during interleague play.

– Yamada, mired in a season-long slump batted in the lead-off spot. According to Manaka logic, let’s get the struggling batters the most possible at-bats as possible.

– This writer is pissed at the manager right now. (We have a love/hate relationship)

– The Swallows continue their interleague schedule on Friday as they open a three game set at Jingu against Seibu. Hara starts for the Swallows, Kikuchi for the Seibus.
