In what seemed like a lopsided pitching matchup, Hara started for the Swallows against Norimoto. Norimoto came in with a personal seven game winning streak on top of striking out at least ten batters in eight straight starts.

Things got started in typical Swallows fashion as they fell behind early as Rakuten’s Wheeler hit a solo home run to straight away center. Here we go again… 1-0 Rakuten

The Swallows responded in the fifth inning in unusual fashion as they manufactured a run using good baseball fundamentals. (UEDA TAKE NOTE) After Yuhei singled to lead off the inning, he went first to third on a wild pitch. After Green struck out, Ohbiki put down a beautiful bunt with two strikes to squeeze in Yuhei. 1-1 tie

The Swallows added more runs in the sixth inning against a subpar Norimoto as Yuhei singled with the bases loaded to score two runs. The Swallows added another as Green struck out but reached on a wild pitch, scoring the runner from third. 4-1 Swallows

The Swallows were gifted another chance by Rakuten in the seventh inning when Hara attempted a sacrifice bunt with a runner on first. Norimoto airmailed the ball past third base allowing the runner to score and Hara to reach third. Hara then scored on an RBI single by Sakaguchi. 6-1 Swallows

Hara came out from the dugout to pitch the ninth inning for the first time in his career. Despite giving up a run, he finished the job and shut the door on the Rakutens, his first of hopefully many complete games.  6-2 Swallows final

News and Notes

  • Norimoto’s NPB record for consecutive starts with ten strikeouts game to an end.
  • The Swallows start a three game series against the Nippon Ham of Hokkaido at Jingu to conclude the interleague schedule (thank goodness). Hoshi starts for the Swallows, Takanashi for the Hams.
