Today’s groundbreaking discovery: bad starting pitching (Swallows)+ ineffective hitting (Swallows) + hot hitting lineup (Hanshin) + Lucky Stiff (Umeno) ≠ Swallows Win

8Umeno (C)8Yachi (3B)
9Fujinami (SP)9Ishikawa (SP)

The starters for this game were Ishikawa for the Swallows, Fujinami for the Hanshins. Fujinami struggled in his previous start against the Swallows, a team he usually does well against. Swallows’ starter Ishikawa comes off a wretched start against the Gomiuri Giants his last time out.

Ishikawa was rocky from the start, giving up at least one hit in every inning pitched. Despite wiggling out unscathed for the first two innings, Hanshin cashed in and did their damage during the third to fifth innings with a combined ten hits (three home runs) and seven runs (all earned and charged to Ishikawa).

All the Swallows offense had to show for this game was an RBI ground out by Sakaguchi in the bottom of the fifth inning. 7-1 Hanshin Final

The lone bright spot for the Swallows was again a great performance by the bullpen, albeit in garbage time, as Gilmet, Kondoh, and Yamamoto combined for 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Fujinami earned the win in this game, improving his record to 3 wins and one 1 loss. Ishikawa took the loss and dropped to 2 wins and three losses while his ERA ballooned to 5.88.
