The Scoring:

Top of the first. Things started off ugly. . . Uglily? Ugly. The second pitch Buchanan served up to Takayama was a high, slightly outside fastball that Takayama hit over the centerfield wall. 1-0 Hanshin.

Buchanan gave up no more runs, turning in a seven-inning, 109-pitch win, with four Ks vs. two walks and five hits.

Bottom of the second, two outs. Nakamura doubled to left and was promptly driven in by Yachi on a single to left. 1-1.

Bottom of the seventh. Nakamura led off with a triple to center. Yachi then grounded out to the mound. Buchanan’s night ended as Ohmatsu came in to pinch-hit and hit into a fielder’s choice at second, which allowed Nakamura to score. 2-1 Tokyo.

Bottom of the eighth. Iwazaki took the mound for the visitors. Yuhei led off with a single, then reached second when a pitch got away from Umeno. Takeuchi then reached first on an interference call. Bad inning for Umeno. Nakamura then came up and sac-bunted both runners over.

With one out and two runners in scoring position, Hanshin put Yanase on the mound. The first batter he faced was Yachi, who hit a two-RBI single to center. 4-1 Tokyo, Final.

Tiger-hunting resumes tomorrow afternoon.
