An explosive second inning and some impressive pitching helped snapped the Swallows’ losing streak in Nagoya.

The Swallows scored big in the second. A Balentien single to left was followed by an error which got Ugumori to first and Balentien to third. Nakamura then hit one to center to bring in the first run of the game.

And the inning was just getting started, baby. A hit by Yachi loaded the bases, and while a Hoshi strike out gave the Dragons the first out of the inning, the subsequent Obiki RBI added another two runs to the board.

After a ground out by Sakaguchi, Yamada was walked to load the bases again. Yuhei then did his thing, slapping one to left for another RBI that brought things to 0-5. The final run of the inning was scored when Balentien, batting for the second time in the inning, hit a triple to left.

Yakult’s final run of the day came in the fourth, when Balentien followed an Ueda single with yet another triple. What a showoff.

Meanwhile, on the defensive side of things, Hoshi pitched seven innings in an impressively efficient 79 pitches, giving up only one run, a solo homer from Guerrero in the sixth. Lueke and Guilmet pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings, and that was it for the birds’ long lost streak.

The annual three weeks of the Pacific League beating up on the Central starts on Tuesday. Tokyo will face the Buffaloes, currently tied for fourth in the PL, at Kyocera Dome.
