After Sunday’s big win over Gomiuri, the Swallows needed to quickly regroup and avoid any hangover to stay on track. Naturally, the Swallows entrusted youngster Sugiura with that task against Chunichi’s Yamai. Although Sugiura had been winless in his two starts since returning from long term injury, he has been a valuable spark for the final stretch.

The Scoring

Bottom of the first: Ueda started the inning by singling to left, followed by a Kawabata double. After Yamada struck out, Lord Hatake stepped up and hit a RBI groundball to get the scoring started. 1-0 Swallows

Bottom of the second: Yuhei singled to center and scored on Imanami’s double. Imanami then scored on Nakamura’s RBI double.  Ueda then decided to choose this point of the season to hit his first home run of the season,  a two run shot. 5-0 Swallows

Sugiura ran into a jam in the fifth inning when Chunichi loaded the bases with nobody out. Manaka however showed his faith in the youngster and was Sugiura responded by only giving up one run. Chunichi also added a run against reliever Matsuoka in the sixth inning. 5-2 Swallows

Bottom of the eighth: Kawabata sealed the deal, hitting a home run for his 21st game with three hits or more. 6-2 Swallows final

Tony Barnette came in for the final out to notch his 40th save of the season.
