Rookie Terada made his top team debut and looked a little nervous on the mound. Terada kept giving the Giants free passes to first. Two walks in the first, a dead ball and a walk in the second, and a walk in the third meant that the Giants had plenty of base runners to bring home. However Terada had good enough stuff that none of the Giants made hard contact at the right time to bring anyone home. But the shaky control got Terada yanked after 3 innings despite giving up just two hits and getting three strikeouts while keeping the Giants off the board.

Tokuyama followed with three shutout innings including a perfect fourth and sixth. Tokuyama loaded the bases in the fifth with two walks and an infield single but the Giants offense did nothing.

Meanwhile Aaron Poreda was making the Swallows offense look weak as he illicited an endless stream of ground balls. The only hit he surrendered through 7 innings was a infield single to Milledge in the second.

Kyuko came in to pitch the seventh for the Swallows and gave up a one out walk to Sakamoto. Abe worked the count full and kept fouling off pitches as Sakamoto kept breaking for second. Kyuko managed to completely fool Sakamoto on a pickoff that lead to this humorous image and easy out.

Go to bed, Sakamoto.

The Swallows finally got to Poreda in the eighth. Nakamura got a one out single, and Hiroyasu came in as a pinch hitter and got a solid single that put men on the corners. The Giants pulled Poreda and sent in Scott Mathison to face the top of the Swallows’ order. A failed hit and run with Hiyane lead to strikeout but advanced Hiroyasu on the stolen base. Kawabata managed to muscle an inside fastball the other way and get it right between the shortstop and a charging left fielder. With both runners running on contact, Nakamura scored easily from third and Hiroyasu managed to avoid the tag at home to get the second run. 2-0 Swallows

That’s all the Swallows needed as Tony Barnette did his THANG and shut the door for his 31st save of the year. 2-0 Swallows FINAL
