(Koshien Stadium)

Your Swallows jumped out to a healthy early lead, but Naruse couldn’t capitalize, and the Swallows dropped the first game of the series in Kansai.

W: Ando (4-2 / 3.16 ERA); L: Roman (2-1 / 1.70); S: Oh (30 S / 2.90)

In fact, Tokyo’s prized off-season acquisition didn’t even survive a full four innings.

In the top of the first, Hiyane and Kawabata drew consecutive walks before Yamada singled. Hiyane scored on the play, and one out later Kawabata scored on Yuhei’s base knock to left. Yamada and Yuhei both reached home safely on Dening’s double with two outs.

4-0 Tokyo

After a perfect first inning, Naruse allowed three hits in the bottom of the second which resulted in a single run on Tsuruoka’s single.

4-1 Tokyo

Dening began the fourth inning with a second gap double before Hiyane and Kawabata helped out with consecutive two out RBI base hits.

6-1 Tokyo

But things started to get out of hand in the bottom of the fourth, an inning that Naruse would not complete. The poop-storm began with a Gomez single before back-to-back home runs by Murton and Arai. A walk and some unfortunate fielding later and the Tigers had pocketed four runs.

6-5 Tokyo

The Swallows responded well in the top of the fifth by loading the bases with one out, but other than a Nakamura RBI walk, the offense was not able to add any further damage.

7-5 Tokyo

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Matsuoka recorded two of his three strikeouts, but he also loaded the bases and allowed two earned runs on a Fukudome single. Ondrusek finished the frame with a strikeout of his own.

Roman had a rought eighth inning. In a two out, bases loaded situation, Gomez took a beanball to force a run home, and Murton knocked another two in with a single.

7-10 Hanshin

Tokyo put up a little bit of a fight in the top of the ninth thanks to a two out Ohbiki double and a third gap double from Mr. Dening. But after Nakamura piled on by drawing a walk, Morioka grounded out to second to end the game.

8-10 FINAL

Game Notes

  • The Swallows were 0 and 5 in their games at Koshien so far this season, scoring just 6 runs in the process. It took them just 4.2 innings to eclipse that run total tonight. The overall season series between the teams stands at 5-9 in the Tigers’ favor.
  • Tokyo will look to bounce back on Saturday, which will see the long awaited return of Ishiyama on the mound, going up against the chunky-monkey man that is Randy Messenger.
