Yamanaka the Submariner put in another steller starting performance, Ohbiki continued to show his knack for timely hitting, and Tony Barnette did what Tony Barnette does as the Swallows ended the first half of the season on a winning note.

Both starting pitchers, Yamanaka for the Swallows, Ohno for the Dragons were on their games in the early going. Although this was expected of the Dragons’ Ohno, one of the finer pitchers in the Central League, mid season call up Yamanaka impressively stood his ground and at one point retired thirteen straight batters from the second to sixth inning.

Ohbiki finally broke the deadlock in the seventh inning on a two run home run, his first homer as a Swallow.

Swallows added an insurance run in the eighth inning thanks Hiroyasu Tanaka.

The Dragons ended a consolation run in the bottom of eighth before Tony Barnette came in for the ninth and shut the door to continue his splendid season. 3-1 Swallows final

Game notes

Swallows finish the first half of the season in fourth place, 1.5 games behind first place Yokohama.

Speaking of Yokohama, they finish the first half in first place for the first time in 17 years. We do not wish them the good luck for the rest of the season.

Swallows players participating in this year’s all star game: Tony Barnette, Shingo Kawabata, Tetsuto Yamada, Yuhei Nakamura, Yuhei.
