The Swallows got to face Hiroki Kuroda in arguably his first start back in Japan at a hitter’s park (Kuroda’s previous starts were in Hiroshima, Koshien, and Nagoya Dome). The Swallows took advantage against the veteran.

The Swallows started the night with a Yamada single, followed by an Ueda tak-bunt. Yamada found himself on third after a Kawabata infield single. Ebisu Hatakeyama managed to get an RBI on a ground out to open the scoring. 1-0 Swallows

The Swallows piled on in the second after Kuroda loaded the bases on two singles and a hit batsman. He did also have two outs against Ueda, but Ueda drove a liner into the right-center gap for a triple worth 3 runs. 4-0 Swallows

Yuhei got the final run of the night for the Swallows in the third by belting ball deep into right for a solo shot. 5-0 Swallows

While Kuroda was struggling Ogawa was dealing against the Carp. However the momentum stalled in the fourth. Ogawa gave up two walks and a Jingu wind-aided homer to Soyogi for thee runs. 5-3 Swallows The extra runs kept the game close, especially as Kuroda found his footing. However Ogawa managed to pitch three more innings without giving up any more runs.

The Swallows handed the ball to Ondrusek in the eighth. Unfortunately the tall righty gave up back-to-back singles to lead off the eighth. A ground out advance the runners into scoring position, and an Arai ground out scored one run and put a man on third. 5-4 Swallows At that point the Swallows chose not to take any chances and sent Barnette to the mound. Tony got four straight outs to save the game for the Swallows. 5-4 Swallows FINAL
