The Swallows cruised to a smooth win thanks to some solid pitching by Ishiyama. The offense probably left some runs on the table, but who cares? We won!

L: Kaneda (5-1)
S: Barnette (10)

The Tigers actually struck first in the second inning. Gomez and Murton got back-to-back singles to start the inning. Fortunately Imanari grounded into a double play that advanced Gomez to third. Gomez came home on a single by Ito to give the Tigers the early lead. 1-0 Tigers

The Swallows kept poking at Kaneda and finally got through in the fourth. With one out Hatake singled and Yuhei doubled to put two men into scoring position. Yuichi flared a single to center to bring the runners home and give the Swallows the lead. 2-1 Swallows

Kaneda left the game after five innings and the Swallows missed an opportunity to feast on the Tigers’ bullpen in the sixth. Kawabata started off a with a double to right that probably should’ve been an error on Ito. Kawabata advanced to third on a Hatake fly and came home on a Tsutsui wild pitch. 3-1 Swallows The Swallows proceeded to load the babses on two hits, a grounder, and a walk. Ishiyama appeared to get a hit to shallow right but was a bit slow to get to first and got the rare ground out to right field for the final out of the inning.

The Swallows added another run in the eighth. Yuhei and Iihara got a single each, and Takeuchi moved them along with a sac bunt. Nakamura got a fly deep enough into left for a sac fly. 4-1 Swallows

Ishiyama left the game after seven, and the bullpen duo of Akiyoshi and Barnette pitched perfect innings, including a 3 K performance from Tony, to shut the door on the Tigers. Nice to see a textbook pitchers replay from the Swallows. 4-1 Swallows FINAL

  • Ishiyama pitched 7 inning on 103 pitches, giving up a run, 8 hits, and a walk. He also struck out 5 Tigers on the way to his second win as a starter.
  • Yuhei went 5-for-5 including a double and two runs scored on the night.
  • Balentien didn’t start tonight’s game after tweaking his left Achilles last night, but did come in as a pinch hitter in the eighth. He drew a walk and was promptly replaced by a pinch runner.
  • The Swallows will go for the series win tomorrow with Ogawa set to to face Iwasada.
