Home Page Improvements

I know I’ve asked this question before, but I’d like some input from our loyal and beautiful base of readers on what enhancements can be made to the site during the off-season.

There are lots of ideas that are currently being kicked around behind the scenes. Ditch the forums? Make the home page more newsy? Get Tony Barnette to start doing articles for us? Make the top banner sexier?

We’ve received some valuable insight from everyone out there in Tsubamegun-land before, so I thought I’d give y’all another shout since you’re the only reason why we keep doing this. And be honest. If the forums are useless, please say so. If you want more video, then let us know. If you’d like Dave to host the semi-regular TS Podcast in nothing other than Zack Galifinakis quotes, then…your wish is our command.

Anyway, I guess I should conclude this post by saying ‘thank you’. You have been amazing this year, and we’ve loved sharing the experience with you. It should be fun to see what happens over the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned, and don’t ever hesitate to chime in with what you’re thinking.

Big love,

The Tsubamegun Crew

By the way, you don’t necessarily have to comment in order to have your voice heard. Feel free to send a message to admin[at]tokyoswallows.com. Or just call Garrett. He normally stays up pretty late.

About Christopher Pellegrini

Christopher is a budding sabermetrician and long-time supporter of Tokyo's more lovable team, the Swallows. He has publicly volunteered, several times, that he plans to buy the team at some point in the future. When he finally runs the joint, it is likely that he will fine any player who swings at the first pitch or sac bunts (unless it's a pitcher, of course). Follow him on Twitter: @chrispellegrini

I like the new video on the right.  It’d be good to see that change often.

I know that the forums don’t get too lively on occasion, but I’d rather not see them go away.  Unless you plan on moving all of the discussion over to Google+.  I hit the +1 several times and promote your best works there.  I believe that I’ve read about a Google+ plugin for WordPress that will use the G+ engine for postings.  That would certainly be interesting.

  • First of all, thanks a lot for this great site. It’s a great place to get a different point of view on the Swallows, and Japanese baseball in general, than the normal Japanese media, websites, etc., which tends to have the same kind of opinion, so it really is a huge breath of fresh air.
And I guess, if I were to ask more of this site, that is what I would want you guys to expand on.
I really like the commentary aspect of the site, like what you have on your podcasts.
Stuff like, the hatred for Takada, the man-love for Tateyama and Miyamoto, the nicknames, Fludge and Beavis, and the Shiroishi ridicule (I think you guys should rag on Noguchi more)… stuff like that is always fun to read (the more biased the better), and it might be interesting if you have more biased commentary.
Also, if you can get Tony or anyone in relation to the Swallows to participate on this site, that would be huge!

On the other hand, a more statistical approach to the Swallows players might be interesting. The Japanese media (and it seems team management) rarely get into detailed account of things.

    • Thanks for your feedback, Ryo. Very much appreciated. It’s great to hear that there are people out there who want us to stick to our roots!

  • Count Fistula

I’d like to see the J-Com (and Sky Perfect for others) TV channel numbers in the fixtures section.  I’m always loosing my J-Com pull-out.

Is this the sort of thing you could do?

and once an article has been pushed out of the ‘recent articles’ box… it’s very difficult to navigate to an old article.

  • Thank all for the comments and suggestions so far.

We will be taking them all into account when we re-vamp the site in the off-season.

    Keep them coming!

and a ‘player of the week, and ‘wooden spoon of the week’ prize.  I want to know who is on fire and who is crashing and burning.

  • I just want someone with sense that I can talk with.  I love you just the way you are!  (Any improvements are welcomed, of course.)
