Things started off slow for both teams tonight. It was a bit of a pitchers duel for the first 5 innings. Neither team could get much going until the 6th. In the bottom of the inning, Aoki got things started with a single to right. He advanced to second when Tanaka grounded out to third. Aoki was again on the move when Kawabata hit a soft grounder to short. Aoki was safe at third but Kawabata was out at first. With two outs, up next was Hatakeyama. He walked to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Up next was “Coco”.  “Coco” is still in the middle of a slump but his bat did come alive on Sunday. So Swallows fans were hoping he could do some damage this evening. Answering their calls, he hit a double to score Aoki. 1 – 0 Tokyo

This is how we do it!

Miyamoto flew out to end the inning.

Things were quiet until the bottom of the eighth. After Tanaka grounded out to start the inning, Kawabata was up next. He promptly hit a solo shot out of the park.  2 – 0 Tokyo

With a 2-0 lead Barnette took the mound. He got the pinch-hitter Saeki to ground out for the first out. After walking another pinch-hitter, Tanaka, Barnette struck out Araki. He ended the game by getting Oshima to fly out to left.

That my friend is the team helicopter. Time for me to get out of here. See you guys at the hotel pool.

  • Ishikawa got his 8th win of the season
  • Barnette got his 2nd save of the season
  • 16,182 were in attendance this fine evening
  • Kawabata was the man of the match

Scoring Summary

   6th  Balentien doubles, Aoki scores 1 0
8th  Kawabata hits a solo HR  2 0

About Scott

Scott is an avid fan of the underdog. He spent his childhood cheering for the Chicago White Sox and hating all teams from New York. Once he moved to Tokyo, he quickly directed this same hatred toward the tenants of the Tokyo Dome. Thus began his support of the Swallows (and anyone playing against the indoor Tokyo team).
In his mind, there is not a better place to be than at Jingu stadium watching the Swallows from the bleachers, drinking a nice cold drink, and cheering along with the extremely knowledgeable Swallows fans.
