Hiroshima Toyo Carp  2

Tokyo Yakult Swallows  3

Streak:  Won 1      Last 5: LDWLW

(Meiji Jingu Stadium)

Tokyo took game two of the series this evening in a well-pitched match-up.

Us:

  • Aoki (CF)
  • Tanaka (2B)
  • Whitesell (1B)
  • Hatakeyama (LF)
  • Balentien (RF)
  • Miyamoto (3B)
  • Kawabata (SS)
  • Aikawa (C)
  • Shichijo (P)

Them:

  • Higashide (2B)
  • Kimura (SS)
  • Maru (LF)
  • Kurihara (1B)
  • Matsuyama (RF)
  • Kokubo (3B)
  • Shima (CF)
  • Ishihara (C)
  • Maeda (P)

Shichijo improved to a 3-0 record with this 6-inning, 76-pitch, 3-hit, 2-run performance closed by a Lim save – his 20th.

The Birds scored first, in the second inning, when Hatakeyama doubled out to the fence, was followed by two outs, then a Kawabata double, which made it 1-0 Tokyo.

Hiroshima came back immediately. With two outs, Kimura made the dumbass, but successful, move of sliding head-first into first. Maru then followed that with a home run to right. 2-1 Hiroshima.

The bottom of the third got exciting, when Maeda walked Miyamoto and Kawabata before a Kimura fumble at short allowed Aikawa to reach first and load the bases, bringing up Shichijo  to strike out before Aoki grounded out with the bases loaded to earn a shower of abuse from the back of the Tokyo bleachers.

Both pitchers kept the bases clear until the bottom of the sixth. Balentien singled, as did Kawabata, putting men on the corners. Aikawa then drove Balentien in and Kawabata to third. With men still on the corners, Shichijo’s pitching was put second to his hitting like a pitcher and Takeuchi was brought in to drive in a another run on a sac fly before Aoki popped out. 3-2 Tokyo, Final.

Oshimoto pitched the seventh, giving up one walk and no hits. Barnette took the eighth, giving up one hit vs. one K. Lim gave up one hit in the ninth. Iihara played left, but got no AB.

One more against Hiroshima tomorrow night.
