Miwa named July Eastern League player of the month

Infielder Masayoshi Miwa (no. 60)Masayoshi Miwa (no. 60), a second year infielder currently toiling on Tokyo’s farm team, was named the July player of the month in the minor league’s Eastern division.

The 25-year-old Miwa hails from Yamaguchi prefecture, and the speedster throws righty and bats lefty. While he has made three appearances on Tokyo’s top team so far this season, all three of those instances were late inning defensive replacements that didn’t end up affording him his first top flight at-bat.

His stellar month of July involved 13 games for the Swallows farm team during which time he amassed a .417 batting average by hitting safely in 15 of his 36 at-bats. Additionally, Miwa had an OBP of .500 during that month and swiped five extra bases.

In light of these accomplishments, it is somewhat surprising that Takada hasn’t found an excuse to pull him up for another go at a regular slot on the first team.

In 2008, Miwa spent the entire season on the farm team, and appeared in 80 games. He had a .283 batting average and stole 24 bases.

Hopefully we get to see him play a little bit during the end of the season if there are any good chances to give our regular starters a rest.

In the meantime, keep slugging away, Masayoshi!
