Yuki Tanaka struggled in his second start of the season, allowing Chiba a big early lead from which Yakult couldn’t recover.

Yuki lasted only three innings, giving up five runs off five hits and striking out three. He never really had command of his control as he walked three and hit two men, as he was tagged with the loss as his ERA rose to 6.750.

Yakult put out the following starting lineup:

  1. Kawashima Keizo (SS)
  2. Fukuchi (LF)
  3. Aoki (CF)
  4. D’Antona (DH)
  5. Guiel (RF)
  6. Hatakeyama (1B)
  7. Miyamoto (3B)
  8. Tanaka (2B)
  9. Aikawa (C)

Chiba went ahead in the bottom of the 1st. Yuki got two quick outs before walking Saburo and then giving up a two run homer to the ever-dangerous Iguchi for 2-0 Chiba.

Chiba  then put up another three runs off four hits in the 3rd, and the Swallows found themselves 5-0 behind and that was all for Yuki.

Tokyo struck back against Marines’ starter Naruse in the top of the 4th. A leadoff Guiel double was followed up by a Hatakeyama single to put men on the corners with no outs for Miyamoto. And the veteran team leader hit a double to bring home two runs and make it 5-2 Chiba.

Hajimoto worked a scoreless 4th and 5th innings and then Oshimoto came in for the 6th. After putting up a zero in the 6th he allowed a run in the 7th and it was 6-3 Chiba

Yakult added one more in the top of the 9th with three one-out singles, Tanaka with the RBI. This brought the potential tying run to the plate, Kawabata (pinch-hitting for the hitless Aikawa), but he could only manage to hit into a double play to end the game at 6-3 Final.

Hatakeyama went 2 for 4 in the game and is now batting .321. Aoki was hitless with two walks.

So, Tokyo’s inconsistent Interleague form continues and they return to Chiba Marine Stadium tomorrow afternoon to try and avoid the mini-sweep at the hands of Bobby Valentine’s men.
