About Christopher Pellegrini

Christopher is a budding sabermetrician and long-time supporter of Tokyo's more lovable team, the Swallows. He has publicly volunteered, several times, that he plans to buy the team at some point in the future. When he finally runs the joint, it is likely that he will fine any player who swings at the first pitch or sac bunts (unless it's a pitcher, of course). Follow him on Twitter: @chrispellegrini

  • Yeah, it’s pretty crazy. This was one messed up weekend. I still can’t believe the Fighters got swept by the Eagles and the Shortest Middle Infield Ever Known To Man.

But anyway, I love the new banner you guys have up there! That’s late 2005 sometime, right? I was trying to decide who the leadoff man was, Aoki or Inaba, then realized the telltale clue was Miyade in there instead of Ken Suzuki 🙂 Well, and Riggs I suppose. Kutabare Yomiuri!

Long live the old scoreboard! The real, information-packed, always-on scoreboard! I mourn its loss….

The Dragons are playing well, but I’m not sure how much to read from sweeping Yokohama. We’ll find out this week in the TYS home opener. See y’all there!

  • Yes Deanna. It was 6th of August 2005.

Aoki, Furuta and Shiroishi completed the lineup that finished the game.

Tateyama was the winning pitcher that day. Good times.

    Good start for the birds.
I also really like the image with the old scoreboard.
Interesting that out of the 12 players on there, only one from each side (Abe and Miyamoto) are still on their team.
Wait, is Yano still with the Giants?? What happened to that guy??

  • Yeah, awesome banner photo!

Thats a strong line up for Swallows. The bad thing about not living in Japan is that it is hard to be completely updated on the latest news. I am suprised to hear they have changed the score board. The Jingu score board was legendary. Have not been to the “new Jingu” yet with the new score board and the new bigger field.

Was this when Wakamatsu was manager? I think he was the manager at that time. Wakamatsu was an another decent manager for Swallows. I liked his character alot. Also a great player in the 80s with a cool ouen song.

I was at the last game for Wakamatsu as manager in Jingu. It was against Dragons, I think. After the game Wakamatsu walked around the field thanking the fans. Then Furuta became manager.

Question. One year, Zebra had a hiphop song which they were playing at Jingu, it was a hiphop song about the Swallows. Does anyone know the name of that track and where I could get it? Have been searching without any luck.

  • Rob

Maybe “Field Of Dreams (Beat Park Anthem)”?
I have no idea, but googling and noodling seemed to point in that direction.

  • That was during Wakamatsu’s last year if I remember correctly.

You can see the new scoreboard on the Jingu website. It has the potential to be even better than the old one, except for the fact that the sides where all the individual info used to displayed was given over to permanent adverts, and it’s used poorly. For example when they show video/commercials on the screen, it uses the whole screen, meaning you can’t see the info you need to know (who’s up, what inning it is etc etc)

It’s poorly implemented. But complaints were made last year but they said changes could not be made during the 2008 season. Will see if anything changes in 2009.

    Thanks for the info, guys.

It is probably Field Of Dreams, Beat Park Anthem. Now I know the name of the track so should not be too difficult to find it.
