Chunichi Dragons 0
Streak: Won 3 Last 5:WLWWW
For the second night in a row Yakult shut out the Chunichi Dragons in Nagoya, as new-boy Sean Douglass made a promising start to his Tokyo career.
Ex-Carp and mid-season aquisition Douglass went 5 shutout innings, giving up just three hits and striking out two. Alas, a lack of run support up until that point meant he couldn’t land a win to go with the solid debut as he ended up with a no decision.
The Swallows scored their only runs of the game in the top of the 7th inning off Chunichi starter Satoh. Ihara was walked on base to start the inning followed by a single from Hatakeyama. Takeuchi then sac-bunted the runners around. Tanaka came to bat but grounded to third and Ihara was caught in no-mans land between third and home and was out while the runners advanced to second and third. Next man Guiel walked to load the bases. Yuichi, pinch hitting for catcher Kawamoto, then singled to right to bring home two runners for a 2-0 lead.
And that was the scoring done for the game. Oshimoto (ERA 3.00 in 51 app.), who pitched a scoreless 6th in relief of Douglass took the win, his 5th of the year. Matsuoka (ERA 1.403 in 45 app.), Igarashi (ERA 2.602 in 28 app.) and Lim (ERA 2.077 in 45 app.) pitched hitless 7th, 8th and 9th innings respectively, with Lim earning his 28th save of the year.
Yakult are now level 4th in the Central League with the Hiroshima Carp, now a mere game behind the Dragons, whose record is now tied up at 49-49.
Tokyo will come armed with brooms for the last game of the series tomorrow evening, as they look to sweep the Dragons for the first time this season.
