Shohei Tateyama picked up his first win since June 12th as Yakult shut out the 3rd placed Dragons in Nagoya.

Tateyama went 7 shutout innings, giving up seven hits and striking out four.

Tokyo scored first off Chunichi starter Ogasawara in the top of the 1st inning, with Ihara bringing home Fukuchi with a sacrifice fly for 1-0.

Yakult would only manage two more hits off Ogasawara through the 7th, while Chunichi found Tateyama a little easier to hit, except when it mattered, leaving a number of men stranded.

But the Swallows would pull ahead in the top of the 8th.  Singles from Shida and Ihara, followed by a 2 run triple from Hatakeyama made it 3-0, before Tanaka hit a sac-fly to add another for 4-0.

Igarashi pitched a hitless bottom of the 8th before Yakult missed the chance to finish off the Dragons in the 9th.

Chunichi reliever Nelson gave up a double to the pinch-hitting Guiel, and then he completely lost the strike zone, walking Fukukawa and Takeuchi on eight straight balls.  Nakazato replaced Nelson and then Fukuchi grounded to second to make Guiel the first out at the plate.  Shida then hit into a double play to end the inning without a runner scoring.

Lim pitched the 9th, lowering his ERA to 2.126, and the win was Tokyo’s.

Tateyama got his 7th win of the year and his record now stands at 7 wins, 3 losses with an ERA of 2.954.

The two teams meet again tomorrow evening for the second game of the series.
