Tuesday’s win against Yokohama proved to be a one-off as Yakult’s woes against the Central League’s cellar-dwellers continued tonight in Yokohama.

Tonight’s pitching lines for the Swallows were as follows:  (Innings/Hits/Runs/Home Runs)  Muranaka:  4/ 6/ 4/ 0 =>  Yoshikawa: 2/4/5/2 => Okamoto: 0.3/3/3/0 => Hanada: 2/1/0/0.

So not a good night at the office for the pitching staff (with the exception of Hanada), though rookie Okamoto was making his first appearance for the top team.  In fact Yokohama had amassed a 3-12 lead going into the top of the 9th, and five runs in the top of that inning for Tokyo made the final score look a little more respectable than the reality actually was.

Tokyo’s batters did manage 8 hits for the night (compared to the Baystars 14), 3 of those coming in the five run 9th.  Highlights included homeruns for Ihara, Hatakeyama and Takeuchi as well as a 3 for 5 performance from Fukuchi.

This loss drew the season series between the two teams level at 8-8.  And it’s safe to say that if Yakult’s record against Yokohama was more in line with the other teams’ in the CL, then the Swallows might be sitting pretty in the 3rd playoff position right now. But the reality is, they’re in 5th with that 3rd place at a perpetual arms length.

The two teams meet again tomorrow evening for the rubber game of the series.
