Tokyo Yakult Swallows 4
Streak: Lost 1 Last 5:WWLWL
(Meiji Jingu Stadium)
Tokyo starter, Masanori Ishikawa, only gave up eight hits, but three of them were home runs, and that was the difference in the ballgame.
With the wind blowing out, Murata hit
his league-leading 28th home run in the second inning. In the fourth, Yokohama catcher, Aikawa, hit a solo shot, and then Yoshimura hit a three-run shot in the top of the fifth. All told, Ishikawa (8-7) gave up six earned runs and saw his ERA blossom to 2.65.
Yoshikawa, Igarashi and Hagiwara came on to handle the final four innings of the game and kept Yokohama from scoring any more runs.
Tokyo did all of its scoring in the first two frames. Aoki and Tanaka had RBI hits in the first, and Fukuchi and Miyamoto plated one runner apiece in the second.
Tokyo managed only two hits after that, both of them by Iihara.
Yokoyama (2-1, 3.49) got the win on two innings of work, and Terahara (3-6, 3.31) picked up his 14th save while working the 8th and 9th innings.
Tokyo has one day of rest before they head across town to take on the Yomiuri Giants at Tokyo Dome this Friday – Sunday. Game time on Friday and Saturday is 6 p.m. while the game on Sunday starts at 1:30 p.m.
