Yokohama BayStars 6 Tokyo Yakult Swallows cap

Tokyo Yakult Swallows 2

Streak: Lost 2. Last 5:DWWLL
(Meiji Jingu Stadium)

Yokohama third baseman Murata hit two home runs and drove in all six Baystar runs as Yakult lost the second straight game against the Central League’s cellar dwellers.

Murata opened the scoring in the top of the 1st with an RBI single off Yakult starter Matsui to make it 1-0.

Yakult would then score their only runs of the night in the bottom of the same inning, Takeuchi with an RBI double off Yokohama starter Kobayashi, and Wilson working a bases loaded walk to give the Swallows a 1-2 lead.

The lead would last only until the 3rd, with Murata hitting a 3 run homer off Tokyo reliever Hagiwara (two runs of which were charged to starter Matsui) to put the Baystars 4-2 ahead.

And the home run ball would again haunt Yakult in the 8th inning, with Murata hitting has second homer and third hit of the night, this time a 2 run dinger off Oshimoto to make it 6-2 Yokohama.  This brought the total home runs Tokyo have given up to six in the last two games.

And that was that.  Although Tokyo were held to just 4 hits during the game, they did have numerous chances to score with Yokohama pitchers giving up 6 walks, but Yakult’s batters just couldn’t get the hits when they needed them.

Matsui took the loss for his 2 and 1/3 innings,  giving up 3 runs off 4 hits with 4 walks. His record now stands at 1 win and 1 loss for the year.

The only bright spots for the Swallows were hitless innings of relief from Igarashi in the 6th (with 3 Ks),  Matsuoka in the 7th, and Maruyama in the 9th.

Tokyo move on to the Nagoya Dome tomorrow for a three game series against the slumping Chunichi Dragons.

  • Two in a row at home to Yokohama is. . . well. . .

    You know.

  • Is wonderful? 😉 It’s about time the BayStars pitchers manage to hold a lead (although it took two tries tonight).

  • Well, demoralizing I-thought-we’d-win-a-series-for-once feelings aside, I guess losing two to the BayStars is preferable to losing two to anyone else in the grand scheme of things.
