Orix Buffaloes 2

Tokyo Yakult Swallows cap

Tokyo Yakult Swallows 4

Streak: Won 1. Last 5: LWWLW

(Meiji Jingu Stadium)

Tokyo celebrated recent import Wilson’s (Valdez goes by his first name, Wilson, on his jersey) first start with a win at home in the rain. Wilson made his case for staying in the starting lineup by going two for three and drawing a walk. He started at short while Miyamoto moved over to third for the evening.

The Swallows were down early in the game with starter Ryo Kawashima giving up a run in the top of both the first and third innings. All scoring after that would be in favor of the home side. Fukuchi had his first rbi of the night in the bottom of the third when he brought Kawamoto around to score.

Two innings later, with Wilson and Kawamoto at that corners, successive hits by Fukuchi and Miyamoto plated two more runs. The final run of the inning came in the sixth when things started to fall apart for Orix a little bit. Hatakeyama started the inning by striking out, but then an error, a hit and a bean-ball loaded the bases. Kawamoto drew a walk that brought Tanaka in from third base.

The game ended 4-2 in favor of the Tokyo Yakult Swallows.

Orix starter, Yamamoto, suffered his second loss of the season while giving up three earned runs in five innings. Kawashima earned his second win of the season in five innings of work while giving up two earned runs. Matsui, Matsuoka, Oshimoto and Lim all worked one inning each, and Lim picked up his 18th save of the season.

The second game of the series is tomorrow afternoon, June 22nd, at 2pm. Bring your poncho!

About Christopher Pellegrini

Christopher is a budding sabermetrician and long-time supporter of Tokyo's more lovable team, the Swallows. He has publicly volunteered, several times, that he plans to buy the team at some point in the future. When he finally runs the joint, it is likely that he will fine any player who swings at the first pitch or sac bunts (unless it's a pitcher, of course). Follow him on Twitter: @chrispellegrini

he is a very fun to watch when he gets on base, pitchers loose concentration cuase they know he gots the speed to steal bases.

Good game! I was worried we might be rained out, but it was good to see a bunch of people there. Miyamoto the game MVP looked good at third as well.
