SoftBank Hawks 7

Tokyo Yakult Swallows cap

Tokyo Yakult Swallows 5

Streak: Lost 1.  Last 5: WLWWL

(Meiji Jingu Stadium)

Softbank won an absorbing game at Jingu stadium to split the season-series between to two teams at 2-2.

The Hawks batters chipped away at Yakult starter Tateyama, taking a 3-0 lead by the top of the fifth off six hits.  The Swallows got on the board in the bottom of the same inning, with their 4 hits bringing 2 runs, and an RBI apiece for Fukuchi and Aoki, the former hitting the left-field fence, and the latter the right-field fence. 3-2 Hawks.

The Hawks then roughed up Tokyo middle-relievers Matsui and Satoh for three runs in the top of the 7th, scoring 3 runs to extend their lead to 6-2.  But again Yakult would strike back at the bottom of the same inning, with an RBI from Miyamoto and two more for Aoki to reduce the deficit to 6-5.

Alas, those would be the last runs of the night for Tokyo, with Softbank adding an insurance run in the 8th inning to make it safe for the Fukuoka team.

Tatayama took the loss, and now stands at 6 wins and 2 losses for the season.  Hawks starter Ohtonari got his 7th win of the year for his six and a third innings of work.

The Swallows return to Jingu on Saturday and Sunday for the final two games of this season’s Inter League schedule against the Orix Buffaloes.
