Yamanaka threw a decent start but the young lineup trotted out by the Swallows couldn’t get anything done against Bradin Hagens and the Carp bullpen.

The Swallows had a bad inning in the second. Matsuyama got a one out single. Suzuki followed with a grounder to third but Imanami booted the throw to second putting two men on instead of ending the inning. The runners advanced on a wild pitch before Abe popped up to deep center for a sac fly. 1-0 Carp

Yamanaka protected that lead through six innings but the Swallows offense couldn’t get any solid contact off of Hagens. The Swallows got their first, and ultimately only, hit of the night in the sixth inning. Nishida lead off the inning with a hit up the middle that Kikuchi somehow got to but couldn’t deliver to first. Yamanaka bunted Nishida over to second and Nishiura drew a walk to put two men on for the first time in the night. But Ueda delivered a grounder right to Tanaka for a textbook double play to end the threat.

The Carp padded their lead in the seventh. Abe lead off with a single and got bunted over to second. It wasn’t necessary as Tanaka hit a homer into the right field stands to put two extra runs on the board. 3-0 Carp

Imamura, Jackson, and Nakazaki all pitched a perfect inning each to preserve the win and complete the one-hit shutout. 3-0 Carp FINAL

The Swallows will face the Dragons in a three game set, first they will play a home-away-from-home game in Shizuoka on Tuesday, before returning home to Jingu for the last time in August.

  • How you guys doin’ against the Carp this year? We’re 6-17. Yeah. Minus the Carp games we’re still just .500

    • After last night’s loss, the Birds are 8-15 against the Carp. Only Gomiuri has a winning record against them at this point.
