(Yokohama Stadium)

After a couple of painful contests against the Basters, Tokyo sought to salvage a little dignity. The fairly reliable Muranaka would attempt the feat.

Not to be. Once again, a Lueke meltdown played a pivotal role in a lackluster performance by the club. TV gave us many shots of Manaka looking unamused.

The Scoring:

Top of the first, one out. Sakaguchi singled, then Kawabata reached base on an error. With men on the corners, Yamada drove in a run. 1-0 Tokyo.

Top of the sixth. Yamada led off with a line-drive single to left. Yuhei struck out, Balentien singled, and Imanami walked to fill the bases. Nakamura added to his big ol’ sac-fly total and Tokyo got a run. 2-0 Tokyo.

Bottom of the sixth. Elian grounded a single to center, then sprinted to second on a hit and run which turned out to be a walk to end an 11-pitch Miyazaki at-bat. At this point, Coach Takatsu came out to talk to the ailing Muranaka and apparently said exactly the wrong thing because Tsutsugo made a meal of the first pitch of his AB, sending it just to the left of the scoreboard. So much for the lead.

With Kuramoto on first, the inning finally ended when Yamada made a glove toss to Imanami to snag Tobashira. 3-2 Yokohama.

Tsutsugo sits second to Tetsuto Yamada on the CL HR list, with 20 to Yamada’s 28.

Top of the seventh. Tanaka took over the hurling for the hosts and Nishiura quickly tied things up for the Birds with a solo homer to right – his first round-tripper of the season. 3-3.

Bottom of the seventh, two outs. Muranaka walked Elian and was yanked for Lueke, who got taken to the left-center wall by Miyazaki on the first pitch of the AB, allowing Elian to score. Yamashita came in to pinch run. Lueke then continued to stink up the joint, giving up an RBI double to Tsutsugo. Finally, in an ugly AB, he managed to strike out Lopez. 5-3 Yokohama, Final.
