You know it’s sixth place baseball when Tsuyoshi Ueda and Ryosuke Morioka are making starts and are supposed to fill in for Shingo Kawabata and Kazuhiro Hatakeyama.

The Swallows struck first in the fourth inning. Yamada singled, stole seond and came home on a Coco single. 1-0 Swallows

After looking OK through the first three innings, Ogawa imploded in the fourth and fifth innings giving up 9 combined runs. Ogawa gave up 6 extra base hits in those two innings including two homers to Mauro Gomez. 9-1 Tigers

The Tigers gifted the Swallows three runs in the sixth as Aoyagi and Ando combined for a whopping five walks to push in two runs. The Swallows managed to get another run on a Morioka ground out for a combined three runs on ZERO hits in the inning. 9-4 Tigers

A Nishiura lead off double in the seventh turned into a run thanks to a Sakaguchi single. 9-5 Tigers

Hojo, Toritani, and Maeda smacked around Hirai for an extra run in the eighth to put a cherry on top of the humiliation. 10-5 Tigers FINAL

Notes

  • Naruse pitched two scoreless innings between Ogawa and Hirai although he gave up two hits and two walks.
  • Totally random Tigers trivia: Tigers starter Aoyagi’s mother works as a Yakult lady and he has a brother that works for Yakult (in a non-baseball capacity). Perhaps that explains his sixth inning.
  • Th Swallows will travel back to Tokyo to face the Giants in the (con)dome. Kyle Davies will make the star tomorrow and will face Utsumi. While the two teams have split the season series 7-7 so far, the Swallows have lost all six games they’ve played in the Tokyo Dome this season.
About Kozo Ota

Kozo Ota is a third-generation Swallows fan that grew up on Montreal Expos baseball. (You can read more about that here.) When he's not at Jingu, he works as a freelance translator/interpreter to make enough money to go to Jingu. You can find random posts by Kozo on Google+ and Twitter.

  • Maybe you already know this but no one (here) refers to him as Maeda. Many don’t know that his last name is Maeda. He’s just Yamato. A poor, poor man’s Ichiro. (How dare I mention them in the same sentence, you say? Technically it was two sentences.)

    • Kozo

Yeah yeah, I’m just being cheeky. (Just being a passive aggressive know-it-all it all and it’s our site so I’ll call him what I want.) I mean all the Japanese boxscores write it Yamato (so it’s not just Tigers fans), I wouldn’t be surprised if most casual fans didn’t know his last name. If by ‘here’ you meant this site, you can look back at my past write ups and see that I usually refer to him as Yamato.

      • I think by ‘here’ I mean “in Kansai”… anyways, just sayin’ is all. I appreciate your guys’ work. I met a fan at Koshien yesterday who lives in Canada and is a Tigers & Swallows fan… is that even allowed? He said he follows two English NPB websites: mine and yours.

          You bet I do 😉
