Streak: Won 1 Last 5: LWLLW

In a rematch of last year’s Nippon Series (remember when the Swallows played for the championship last year???) the Swallows overcame another terrible start by a pitcher and knocked off SoftBank in come from behind fashion.

The starters for this game were Arakaki for the Swallows, Yamada for SoftBank. A small deal was made about the fact that Arakaki was making his first start against his old ball club. Unfortunately for Arakaki, it was a start to forget; two innings, two hits, no strikeouts, four walks, and a wild pitch. Naruse stepped in from his new relief role to somewhat calm the waters over his 4 1/3 innings of work before Lueke, Muranaka, Ondrusek finished off the game.

Luckily for the Swallows, SoftBank starter Yamada had a stinker of his own and kept the Swallows in the game.

SoftBank were led on offense by Uchikawa and Yanagita while the Swallows bats came alive with five players collecting two hits each. Of the twelve total hits by the Swallows, none were bigger than Nakamura’s two run double with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 6-4 come from behind win.
