The Swallows continued their winning ways on Tuesday afternoon in Yokohama with a comprehensive 6-0 victory over the pitiful Yokohama Baystars.

The Swallows got the scoring started in the first inning after Sakaguchi and Kawabata singled to start the game. After Yamada flew out to left, Balentien stepped up to hit a three run home run to left field, his eighth of the season. Despite hitting the ball off the end of his bat, the ball continued to carry in windy Yokohama. 3-0 Swallows

In the third inning, Balentien hit an RBI single to left to score Sakaguchi and extend the lead. 4-0 Swallows

After going down in his first two plate appearances, Yamada hit a no doubt two run home run to centerfield. 6-0 Swallows

Pitching comfortably with a lead throughout the game, Yamanaka masterfully changed speeds and kept the Yokohama lineup off balance. Yamanaka’s final pitching line: 9 innings pitched, 4 hits, 3 strike outs, one walk, one hit batter, 105 pitches.

Notes

  • This was Tokyo’s first complete game shutout of the season and the second of Yamanaka’s career.

  • With Japan celebrating “Golden Week” from Tuesday to Thursday, all three games in this series have a 1pm start time.
  • Tomorrow’s starters: Arakaki for the Swallows, Ishida for Yokohama.
