Ladies and gentlemen, our beloved Tokyo Swallows have again reached the lowest of lows of the baseball season: sixth place baseball™. All of our rivals, the Gomiuri Giants, Hiroshima Ba-carp, Chunichi, Hanshin, and even Yokohama sit ahead of us in the standings after Swallows starting pitcher Hara threw batting practice in his brief start on Sunday against Yokohama.

Jose Lopez was the catalyst for Yokohama, getting three hits and three RBIs.

Yokohama starter Yamaguchi was solid, giving up only five hits and two earned runs in seven innings.

Tetsuto Yamada led the sixth place baseball™ Swallows again with two hits, including a consolation home run in the ninth inning after the game was far beyond reach.

News and Notes

  • The Swallows start a three game series against Hanshin at Jingu. Starters for the first game are: lefty Yagi making his first start for the Swallows this season and Nohmi for Hanshin.
  • Swallows veteran Ishikawa hurt his left calf on Sunday and was deactivated from the active roster.
  • Despite my complaining about sixth place baseball™, the Swallows still are a manageable 4.5 games behind first place Hiroshima in the Central League.
