The starters for this game were Ogawa for the Swallows and Koyama for Gomiuri.
The Swallows got the scoring started in the third inning when Ogawa did his best Yamada impression and homered to left center. His first home run in NPB. 1-0 Swallows
Despite this heroics at the plate, Ogawa was shaky throughout his outing allowing base runners in four of five innings pitched. Although he wiggled through unscathed for four innings, bad pitch control finally got to him in the Gomiuri half of the fifth inning. With runners on first and third, Nagano Chono hit a three run home run to left-center, followed later by a Murata solo home run to right-center. 4-1 Gomiuri
The Swallows quickly responded in their own half of the fifth. With runners on second and third, pinch hitter Morioka singled in a run. After a Koyama wild pitch to score another run, Kawabata capped the comeback with a clutch two out single. 4-4 tie
In the bottom of the sixth, Yuhei homered to right to put he Swallows back in front. 5-4 Swallows
In the top of the seventh, Murata responded with a two run home run. 6-5 Gomiuri
In the ninth inning, the Swallows had a golden opportunity to tie or walk-off. Ohbiki and pinch hitter Takeuchi reached base to open the inning. Nakamura then bunted them over and put both runners in scoring position with one out. Unfortunately with the infield in, pinch hitter Imanami grounded into a fielders choice to erase Ohbiki and pinch hitter Hiroyasu Tanaka struck out to end the game.
- This was Gomiuri’s 10,000th game but nobody at Jingu gave a crap.
- With the loss, the Swallow fell to third in the standings.
- Starters for the final game of this series are Ishikawa for the Swallows, Sugano for the hated ones.
