W: Naylor
L: Roman

Chunichi starter Drew Naylor scattered nine hits over 7 2/3 innings but the uninspired Swallows continuously shot themselves in the foot and never close to winning this game.

The starters for this game were Orlando Roman for the Swallows, Drew Naylor for Chunichi. Roman was forced out of his customary setup role to start this game due to injuries and recent ineffectiveness of other Swallows starters. Naylor in his previous start against the Swallows was dominant in eight innings of one-run ball.

Swallows scoring plays:

Bottom of the second inning: Ohbiki walked, stole second, and scored on Nakamura’s RBI single. 1-0 Swallows

Bottom of the eighth inning: Yamada homered to straight away center field, his 28th of the season. 5-2 Chunichi

In between those two runs, Chunichi scored many runs but due to the fact that I’d like to avoid reliving those innings and most Swallows fans couldn’t care less, they will be skipped in today’s report. For anybody eager to read about Chunichi’s scoring from yesterday, visit Chunichi Dragons website. And no, the site is not available in English. Final score 7-2 Chunichi

Game notes:

– The Swallows are under .500 for the first time since July 21st. (A little complacency on the part of the coaching staff perhaps?)

– Chunichi won their sixth game in a row, their first six game winning streak since April.

– Yamada now leads the Central League home run race by seven over second place Hatakeyama.

– Orlando Roman made his second start of the season and his first since April 2nd against Hanashin. He has appeared in 49 games as a valuable setup man so far this season.  After the game he said, “it was my first start in a while but I wish I went deeper in the game. I wasn’t able to get into a flow.”

– Starters in the second game was Ishiyama for the Swallows, young Hamada for Chunichi.

    What happened to Lastings Milledge?

    • Dan Yoshimoto

Milledge was called back up from the farm for last night’s game and they sent down Mitch Dening. Milledge looked good, drew a couple of walks and had a check swing single.
