Despite the score being close from beginning to end, Tohoku was in control of the game throughout and came away with a deserved victory at Jingu.

The starting pitchers were Arakaki for the Swallows and Mima for Tohoku. 

Tohoku got the scoring started in their half of the second inning. Ishimine lead off with a single Nishida drove him home with a double to left. 1-0 Tohoku

The same two were at it again for Tohoku in the top of the third. After Gotoh doubled to center, Ishimine drove him home with a double, followed by a Nishida RBI single. 3-0 Tohoku

In the bottom of the fifth, the Swallows got an unexpected boost on offensive when the good Nishida homered to left for a two run shot. 3-2 Tohoku

In the top off the seventh, Rakuten added to their lead. Kaz Matsui hit a double to left, advanced to second on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Fujita. 4-2 Tohoku

In the ninth, Tohoku added an insurance run courtesy of a pinch hit solo home run by Fernando. 5-2 Tohoku

In the bottom of the ninth, the Swallows scored a consolation run on another home run by Hatake. Unfortunately, nothing else happened and Tohoku closer got the save comfortably. 5-2 Final

Game notes:

A game of firsts: Fernando for Tohoku and Swallows backup catcher Nishida hit their first home runs of the season. Mima picked up his first win of the season for Rakuten. 

Hatake hit his third home run in two nights. He now leads the Central League home run race by three over Yokohama’s Tsutsugoh.
