(Kyocera Dome)

W: Arakaki
L: Tomei

All Swallows fans expected this; as the weather starts to heat up in Japan, the Swallows’ bats follow suit. Oh and by the way, Hatakeyama hit one out of the park again.

Yamada (2B)1Nishino (2B)
Ueda (CF)2Adachi (SS)
Kawabata (3B)3Itoi (RF)
Yuhei (RF)4Nakajima (3B)
Hatakeyama (1B)5Tea-Okada (1B)
Dening (LF)6Caraballo (DH)
Morioka (DH)7Kawabata (LF)
Imanami (SS)8Itoh (C)
Nakamura (C)9Shunta (CF)

The starters for tonight’s game were Arakaki (1-4, 4.70 ERA) for the Swallows and Tomei (1-3, 3.59 ERA) for the Buffaloes. Arakaki, despite solid pitching performances throughout the season had been winless for two months. In an interesting move, Manaka opted to start Morioka in the DH slot rather than his usual rotating of outfielders.

The Scoring

Top 2nd: Manaka’s decision to start Morioka paid immediate dividends with two outs in the second inning as Morioka drove the ball off the wall for triple. Hot hitting Imanami then walked to make it runners at first and third and Nakamura singled to center to bring home Morioka. 1-0 Swallows

Top 4th: DH Morioka again started off the inning with a single to center and Imanami bunted him over to second. Earlier hero Nakamura fouled out this time and Yamada walked on four pitches. Ueda then stepped up and in Ichiro-like (ex-Orix) fashion slapped the ball into centerfield to score Morioka. 2-0 Swallows

Top 5th: Hatakeyama the Great hit a line drive… into the left field seats. His Central League leading 18th home run and league leading 42nd RBI of the season. 3-0 Swallows

Bottom 7th: After pitching six shutout innings, the Buffaloes finally got to Arakaki in the 7th. With one out, Nakajima singled to right, followed by a monster home run by T-Okada (not a typo, the man refers to himself a T-Okada). 3-2 Swallows

Per usual, the Swallows dependable bullpen came in again and shut the door on the opposition: Akiyoshi for 2/3 inning, Logan Ondrusek for 1 inning, and Tony Barnette closed it out for his 15th save of the season while keeping his 0.00 ERA on the season.  In the process, game hero Arakaki picked up his first win in two months.

Starting pitchers for tomorrow’s series finale:  Naruse for the Swallows, Brandon Dickson for Orix.
