Tokyo Swallows 4

Streak: Lost 2   Last 5: LWWLL

(Meiji Jingu Stadium)

After last night’s steady downpour game the Swallows were treated to intermittent light rain with a couple  of game stopping bursts of heavy rain. The result was a game that was sure to go the full nine innings, but weird for the fans and players.

W: Iwata (2-0)
L: Yamamoto (2-3)
S: Iwase (14)

7Yusuke Matsui (RF)7Yuhei Nakamura (C)
8Shingo Takeyama (C)8Shinichi Takeuchi (LF)
9Shinji Iwata (P)9Chris Narveson (P)

Like the previous night the Dragons struck first. Oshima lead off the game with a hit and came home on a Morino double. 1-0 Dragons

The Swallows got the run back in the second when Yuhei leadoff the inning with a solo shot to left. 1-1 All

The Dragons went ahead again in the fourth after Matsui got on with a leadoff single. He was bunted over to second. Narveson managed to strikeout Iwata but Oshima managed to hit a grounder just past a diving Yamada to cash in Matsui. 2-1 Dragons

The Dragons got runners on throughout and even loaded the bases in the sixth but Narveson managed to keep the Dragons off the board. The Swallows struck in the bottom of the sixth after Kawabata got on with a single, and Morioka launched an improbable homer to centerfield to take the lead for the Swallows. 3-2 Swallows

Narveson handed the ball to Yamamoto for the seventh, and Yamamoto allowed three consecutive one out singles to load the bases. The Swallows brought in Iwahashi and the Dragons brought in the bearded Ogasawara. (Fear the beard.) Ogasawara did his job by lacing a single to center that would’ve scored two runs. However Hiyane misplayed the ball and let it get behind him to allow the thrid run to score and let Ogasawara take second. 5-3 Dragons Tani followed with a double to score another insurance run. 6-3 Dragons

The Swallows got multiple runners in the seventh and eighth but couldn’t bring anyone home.

The Dragons got an extra run when Masato Matsui got a lead off homer in the ninth. 7-3 Dragons

Takeuchi answered with a barely fair solo shot to left to lead off the bottom of the inning, but that was all the Birds would manage. 7-4 Dragons FINAL

The Swallows will now host the BayStars over three game starting tomorrow. Yagi will start for the Swallows while the BayStars will start Ino.

8777 people were in attendance at Jingu tonight.
