Yamada and Kawabata hit to get on the corners, setting up Hatakeyama for a sac-fly, putting the Birds on the board early. 1-0 Tokyo.
In the second, Hanshin repeated almost the same feat: Murton and Arai on the corners, then a Fukudome ground-out allowing Murton to score on a pretty close call at home. 1-1.
The Swallows pulled ahead again in the third, when Araki hit his first home run oft he season – a solo shot to left. 2-1 Tokyo.
Tokyo furthered their lead when Yuhei blasted the second pitch of the fourth inning to the back screen of centerfield for a solo tour of the bases. Messenger then walked Iihara and Araki before giving up an RBI single to Nakamura. Yamada added to the total with a sac-fly that brought Araki in from third. 5-1 Tokyo.
Kaneda took over hurling duties for the battered Messenger in the fifth and promptly helped Tokyo build a bigger lead: Hatake single followed by another home run for Yuhei, this one to left. 7-1 Tokyo.
In the bottom of the seventh, Itoh took the mound for Hanshin, walking Iihara and Araki before giving up an RBI single to Nakamura. The pinch-hitting Yuichi then singled Araki home, with Nakamura getting nabbed on his way to second. Noguchi replaced Yuichi on the basepaths and was promptly driven in by a Yamada double to center. 10-1 Tokyo.
Yagi sat down after seven innings in which he struck out three against eight hits, two walks, and one run. Shichijo took the mound, making his first appearance of the season and threw one K and gave up a single to Gomez before Murton grounded into a double play.
In the eighth, Tokyo piled on poor Itoh, with Yuhei singling, Iihara walking, and Araki cranking his second homer of the game. 13-1 Tokyo, Final.
The Swallows host the Carp beginning tomorrow evening.
