Former Tokyo Swallows center fielder, Norichika Aoki, was traded by the Milwaukee Brewers to the Kansas City Royals for left-handed pitching after two
years of work in Wisconsin. He has one year remaining on his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2014 season.
Most pundits figure Aoki to have a direct line on becoming Kansas City’s everyday right fielder. However, with teams still vying to land Carlos Beltran’s services, it is possible that Aoki would be shifted to right if the Royals can land the veteran outfielder.
After finishing fifth in Rookie of the Year voting following the 2012 season, Aoki posted similar numbers this past season. He tallied a .286/.356/.370 slash line and banged out 171 hits. His power numbers were down last year, but so were his strikeouts. On the upside, he beat his 2012 numbers by 21 hits and 12 walks. Check Aoki’s stats here.
