Today, the Swallows added 23 year-old right-hander Takeaki Tokuyama to the 70-man roster and assigned him number 62. Tokuyama was chosen by the Swallows out of Ritsumeikan University in the 2011 ikusei draft. As an ikusei player, Tokuyama has appeared in 18 Eastern League games over the last season and this season. Tokuyama has also appeared in an unspecified number of exhibition games versus independent and industrial league teams.

Tokuyama boasts a decent win rate and ERA this year, and some reports indicate that he may be called to start on Wednesday against Seibu. The tall righty features a 147 km/h fastball and an array of breaking balls including a slider, changeup, and forkball delivered from a conventional overhand motion. He is listed as a switch hitter, but his recent batting form is unknown.

Tokuyama joins fellow 2011 ikusei draftee Hugo Kanabushi on the 70-man roster. The Swallows now only have Takanori Sato, Yoshinori’s younger brother, on their ikusei roster.
