With tonight’s victory, the Swallows are now a mere one game under .500. . . against the BayStars. In fact, winning pitcher Orlando Roman’s 8-9 record matches Tokyo’s 8-9-1 record against a team that is the strongest possible argument for relegation in baseball.

The scoring began when, one out into the bottom of the third, Fujii, of all people, hit a line drive to left for a single. This was followed by the walking, on four straight pitches, of Uchimura, who was attempting to bunt. Aranami then hit a double, driving in a run. 1-0 Yokohama.
Tokyo’s revenge came almost immediately, when, with one out, Fujii walked Kawabata. Milledge then doubled and Balentien hit a grounder to third that Tsutsugo bobbled, allowing Kawabata to score and putting men on the corners.
Miyamoto then singled, driving Milledge in. 2-1 Tokyo.
The next inning, the Swallows added to their lead. With two outs, Yamada walked, Kawabata reached first on a successful hit and run, and Milledge doubled in a run. Balentien was then walked to load the bases, but Miyamoto popped out to end the inning for the Birds. 3-1 Tokyo, Final.
Roman got the win, giving up five hits and one run on 111 pitches. Yamamoto and Barnette both pitched 1-2-3 innings to end the game.
