Yokohama started the scoring almost right away by going with the time-honored technique of playing the top of the first like the top of the ninth in a tied game. Walk, sac-bunt, RBI single by Nakamura, then two pop flies to end the inning. 1-0 Yokohama.
After Milledge grounded out, Kawabata and Fukuchi walked and Hatakeyama struck out, bringing up young Matsui to drive Kawabata in and even things up. Tanaka struck out to end the inning. 1-1.
The bottom of the fifth saw lead-off man Milledge ground out again, to be followed by Kawabata knocking a slider to the home fans for a solo homer. 2-1 Tokyo.
The bottom of the seventh saw Kobayashi melt down a wee bit, hitting Milledge and walking Kawabata before Fukuchi popped out. A Hatake sac-fly brought Milledge home from third. 3-1 Tokyo.
In the top of the eighth, Shichijo remained on the mound for Tokyo. He walked the pinch-hitting Ruiz and gave up a single to Aranami, and was then yanked in favor of Yamamoto.
A Nakamura single to center drove in a run before a K of Ramirez ended the BayStars’ nascent rally. Oshimoto gave up two hits in the ninth, but got out unscathed. 3-2 Tokyo, Final.
400 yen draft beers and the BayStars again tomorrow night. Go, enjoy yourselves, just don’t bogart all the beer before it gets to us. We know what kind of people read this site.
