Interleague play has not been fun, with the Swallows failing to be achieve victory over the forces of evil night after night. Could our heroes prevail? (Yes, I know you’ve already looked at the score. Play along.)

After four relatively quiet innings, the offense got started when Kisanuki clipped Aikawa up high. This was followed by a Matsui drive to right that Kawabata fumbled, putting men on the corners. Tanaka then hit an RBI and brought up Milledge with men on the corners.

No dice, but Fukuchi hit a two-RBI double. 3-0 Tokyo.

On the Orix side, a Kitagawa single, later followed by a Nonaka RBI narrowed the gap. 3-1 Tokyo.

Shibahara took the mound for the home team in the sixth. In the eighth, the second batter he faced was Hatakeyama. The first pitch he threw to Tokyo’s would-be power-hitter was a high, slightly outside fastball, which Fludge deposited in the right field stands. 4-1 Tokyo.

Muranaka took over tossing duties for the Birds in the eighth. After striking out  Adachi, he saw a Scales grounder bounce out of his glove. He then gave up a single to Li. A Baldiris pop-out brought Scales in. 4-2 Tokyo.

Barnette came into the game 2/3 of the way into the eighth to get Muranaka out of trouble with an epic eight-pitch Kitagawa K. He then pitched a 1-2-3 ninth, ending with a K on three pitches.

Winning is fun.

Tomorrow’s a day off, followed by the Swallows playing bad host to Chiba and Seibu. (Well, not to let secrets out, but they’re both kind of into being dominated by our guys. The safe word is “game over”.)

Just for the record, the 2-rbi by Fukuchi was a single and then he steal the second with Kawabata at the plate. The second Orix point was a wild pitch by Barnette in the 8th.
Sorry to be so annoying 😛
Off the record i liked the Matsui performance. He could be one of the candidates for the 3rd OF spot.
