Ishikawa started the game for the Swallows. He did a relatively good job of keeping runners off base and keeping the Giants from scoring. However, Ishikawa was the the pitcher who gave up the first run of the game, via a Chono solo homer in the third inning. 1-0 Giants
The Swallows got the run back right away in the top of the fourth. After Hatake and Balentien went down, Miyamoto played the role of the slugger taking a 0-2 inside pitch and lining it down the foul line into the left field stands for the tying run. 1-1 All
The Swallows took the lead an inning later. After Ishikawa lead off the inning with a groundout, Milledge got on with a single and Tanaka was walked to set up a 1 out chance for Kawabata. Sugiuchi left a 2-2 pitch high and Kawabata was able to take it to left to score Milledge from second, but the Swallows lost a bit of momentum to stretch the lead when Tanaka was caught trying to get to third. 2-1 Swallows
Ishikawa was pitching well into the sixth inning, having given up only 4 hits (albeit 1 HR) and a walk. Unfortunately Ishikawa was hurt again a solo homerun, this time a 2 out shot to right by Abe. 2-2 All
Both offenses went cold in the latter half of the game, and the game went into extra innings. In the tenth inning, Milledge came up to bat with one out, and with one swing of the bat got the Swallows lead a homer to left off of Nishimura. 3-2 Swallows
The Swallows went into the bottom of the inning with a 1 run lead and handed the ball to Barnette to preserve the win against the top of the Giants’ order. Barnette started off by attacking Chono outside, and ended up with a 3-2 count but pitch number 6 ended up a little high an Chono was able to belt a double to right. Fujimura pushed a bunt to Barnette and advanced the runner to third. With 1 out and a man on third, Sakamoto worked a full count of Barnette and finally got a pitch he liked and lined it into center to score Chono. 3-3 All Barnette was able to finish off the rest of the inning without much problem, but the damage had been done.
The game advanced to an 11th inning, but Scott Mathieson shut down the Swallows in the top of the inning, and the trio of Shoda, Oshimoto and Hirai kept the Giants off the board while the game clock surpassed three and a half hours.
