Opening Day Roster: 2012

Tokyo is slated to kick off the 2012 season on March 30th against Yomiuri, and with spring camp starting in a little more than three weeks, it’s about time we started making wild predictions and thinking wishfully about how close Tokyo will come to winning the pennant.

Wishful thinking can wait just a bit, but let’s throw some batting orders out there just for shits ‘n giggles. If you’ve been following the site over the past couple of months, then you have a pretty good idea of what we have to look forward to this year.

If I were Ogawa, here’s the card that I would fork over on opening day:

1. Fukuchi CF
2. Noguchi 3B
3. Takeuchi 1B
4. Iihara LF
5. Fukukawa C
6. Fujimoto 2B
7. Yuichi RF
8. Miyade 2B
9. Miyamoto P

And that’s why I should be GM.

Post your winning combination in the comments.

About Christopher Pellegrini

Christopher is a budding sabermetrician and long-time supporter of Tokyo's more lovable team, the Swallows. He has publicly volunteered, several times, that he plans to buy the team at some point in the future. When he finally runs the joint, it is likely that he will fine any player who swings at the first pitch or sac bunts (unless it's a pitcher, of course). Follow him on Twitter: @chrispellegrini

  • I think you’ve just about nailed it there. Who can improve on perfection…?

  • Hokkaido Chocolate

    1. Patrick (CF)
    2. Takada of tak-bunt fame (LF)
    3. Tsubakuro (C)
    4. Mac (1F)
    5. Entaro (SS)
    6. Yebisu beer girl #7 (3B)
    7. Passion girl #5 (RF)
    8. Myself (2B) – It’s been my lifelong dream to get beaned and throw the bat at the pitcher
    9. Lim (P) – Who we can blame for the loss on offense as well

All batters to swing at the first pitch, and bunts and squeeze plays to follow thereafter

  • Baseball Oogie

Frankly, as someone who saw him go through his original MLB iteration, I’m waiting to see how many weeks Lastings lasts in Japan. My bet is three weeks.
