Yokohama BayStars 5
Streak: Lost 2 Last 5: DLWLL
(Yokohama Stadium)
Another week ends, and another two series losses are in the books as Tokyo fall in Yokohama. They have now not won a series since the opening series of April, also against the BayStars.
- Tanaka (2B)
- Morioka (SS)
- Aoki (CF)
- D’Antona (1B)
- Guiel (RF)
- Ihara (LF)
- Miyamoto (3B)
- Aikawa (C)
- Muranaka (P)
Muranaka gave up all the Yokohama runs (3 earned) as he took the loss to see his recond drop to 2-3/3.38. He gave up 3 runs off 4 hits in the 3rd, and the final 2 off 2 hits and a sac fly in the 6th. He struck out 8 and walked just the one.
Tokyo put a run up in each of the 4th (Guiel solo homer off rookie starter Kaga), 7th (Morioka timely hit after Aikawa reached base on a HBP off reliever Ejiri) and the 8th (another Guiel solo shot, no.9 for the year off reliever Ushida) innings.
The Swallows outhit the BayStars 10-9 (Tanaka, Morioka, Guiel and Miyamoto each had two hits), with the same old story of stranding a ton of men on base applying today as it has done throughout their April slump. D’Antona struck out in his only two plate appearances before being replaced at first by Takeuchi who went 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts.
Katoh (0.00) and Masubuchi (0.00) worked scoreless innings in relief, though the latter did allow a single and two walks but escaped the bases loaded jam.
From here, Tokyo have to dust themselves down and have a days rest before taking on Hanshin at Jingu from Tuesday. A series win would be nice, as this season is fast becoming tiresome.
