Ishikawa leads the team with 19 1/3 innings and the league with three losses.

Tokyo lost its first series of 2010 to the hapless Carp on the back of a dominating pitching performance by Hiroshima youngster, Maeda.

Nothing, I repeat–nothing, happened on offense for the birds in this game. Only Tanaka had a multi-hit game while D’Antona and Guiel reached base care of a combination of hits and walks.

Meanwhile, Ishikawa (6.05 ERA) gave up seven hits and four earned runs while sinking to his third straight

Maeda kicked the crap out of Tokyo tonight.

loss. Yikes.

To add insult to injury, Tokyo was blanked for the first time this season. Hiroshima, on the other hand, scored one run in the fifth and three in the seventh. 4-0 Hiroshima.

And that was the whole game.

For the record, Maeda gave up only four hits in his eight innings of work. He pitched an amazing game considering how cold it was (I’m looking at you, Kozo).

And that’s the end of a relatively successful home stand for the Tokyo Swallows. Starting tomorrow, the birds begin a 14 game road swing that will see them tested in every way, shape, and form.

Will they still be above .500 when they return?

    Thanks for the shout out! Maeda also managed to have a good game at the plate going 2 for 4 with a double and coming into score both times, in the “cold.”

    I saw the highlights, that was horrible. It looks like the Carp could become this years Bay Stars, in that they're a bad team who always finds a way to beat the Swallows.

      Hi Cory.

      Yes, it looks as though he'll start tonight's game against the Tigers. Though as the Central League doesn't announce the starter until 30 minutes or so before the game, it's difficult to be 100% certain.

      Hopefully he can put in as good a start as he did on his debut.

        Thank you. Tony is my little brother. I'm still trying to learn the system in Japan. Thank you for responding. I hopefully am going out there soon. Been awhile since I've been to Japan. Hopefully tony will perform like he has through out his career. Knowing him as my brother and his work ethic and personal views on how he pitches he has the stuff to be great

          No problem, and welcome to Tsubamegun.

          Yes, it seems Tony has the potential to make a good fist of it here in Japan, and given the less than stable state of the Swallows rotation over the last few years, the door's wide open for him to stake his claim for a regular role. In Japan, and especially as a foreign player over here, the way you conduct yourself off the field is almost as important as on it, so the good work ethic you mentioned will go a long way.

          As I said, his debut was very promising indeed. Tonight will be a true test of him though, as he'll be pitching in front of arguably Japan's rowdiest bunch of fans at Hanshin's Koshien stadium. I will be tuned in and rooting for him to silence them all (and hopefully make them cry too).
