Tokyo Roster Update — 8/23/09
Outfielder Tsuyoshi Ueda (no. 50) has received a call-up to the 28-man first team roster as of yesterday afternoon. This is his second call-up of 2009, the first being for a couple of games back in late July.
The third year 20-year-old from Okayama prefecture spent his entire first two years with the team on the farm. In 2007 he hit .223 in 78 games, and the following year he hit .294 in 90 appearances.
So far this season, he is hitting .247 in 78 games.
Ueda bats lefty and throws righty. He appears to be hitting for power slightly more this season as his home run tally keeps creeping up.
Making space for him on the first team was Kawabata who has seen sporadic use this season. The infielder has hit .270 in 37 plate appearances thus far, and it is highly likely that we will see him again before the end of the season.
Here is what the roster looked like as of game time yesterday:
Pitchers: Yoshinori, Lim, Tateyama, Ishikawa, Matsuoka, Yuuki, Kida, Matsui, Takagi, Lee, Igarashi, Oshimoto
Catchers: Aikawa, Yoneno, Kawamoto
Infielders: Kawashima, Kajimoto, Yoshimoto, Tanaka, Hatakeyama, Noguchi
Outfielders: Fukuchi, Guiel, Takeuchi, Iihara, Aoki, Shida, Ueda

I don’t really understand why Kawabata was dropped. He started at short on Thursday in place of Kawashima, and he went 3-5 at the plate.
Am I missing something?
